LIGHTNING BEFORE THE STORM

F-150 Lightning Front Hood Open
While others jostled for a glimpse at the Ford F150 Lightning at SEMA last year, I must admit I wasn’t nearly as excited at the unveiling of the all-electric pickup truck. Attendees were packed shoulder to shoulder in the Ford booth to get a look at the “truck of the future” that was on display, but I just didn’t get it.

Not only did I not get it, but if I’m being honest the thought of electric pickup trucks ruling our future highways made me a little nauseous. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not opposed to electric cars, I just don’t believe this technology could ever take the place of my diesel truck or come anywhere close to meeting my demands. To be fair, I don’t embrace change very well so maybe it’s just me. When it comes to advances in technology I’m as plugged in as an Amish toaster and maybe I’m just so set in my ways that I’m not capable of appreciating the evolution of an electric truck. Or maybe I’m just right.

Trim Replacement
Dagger Tools Trim Bumping and Restoration Tool
Replacing damaged trim on older vehicles isn’t cheap. Dagger Tools Trim Bumping and Restoration Tool can help restore stainless steel, plated or polished steel, and aluminum trim by ‘bumping’ out dings and dents.

The tool features a drop rod attached to a steel fixture and a leather shot bag that sits on the fixture’s base. The rod has a half-inch quick-change chuck that accepts various dowels, chisels, and other bits. To use the tool, fit the desired bit in the chuck and position the trim on the shot bag. The rod can be operated with one hand, allowing you to accurately target a damaged area while leaving a hand free to guide and move the work piece.

The Dagger Tools Trim Bumping and Restoration Tool comes with one each of hard maple and aluminum dowels with chamfered ends; 1/2- and 7/16-inch steel chaser blade chisels for raising low spots; three forming spheres; a multi-tool with wedge, blunt, and sphere ends; and a 6- by 6-inch shaping pad. Gator
When Gator Fasteners went looking for a truck owner to test its new Competition Series Head Studs, they clearly stumbled upon the right guy for the job. Through trial and error, you might say one of Kody Pulliam’s hobbies is finding the weak points in trucks and this especially includes pushing the limits on his 2004 Chevy Duramax. With his sights set on breaking the 2,000 horsepower mark at the upcoming Ultimate Callout Challenge event, Kody’s truck is always up for a test.

If Gator would have taken out a wanted ad, they probably wouldn’t have found a better fit for a true test of durability since Kody’s Duramax is reaching legendary status. His current horsepower record is 2,071 and he plans to top that mark at the UCC, the first weekend in June during the AMSOIL NWDC fan dyno challenge. He’s currently on his fourth engine and third transmission after countless catastrophes in his endless pursuit to top the 2K horsepower mark once again.

Haul'n Snowmobiles: Getting justin ponsor to the mountain
2015 GMC Sierra 2500 headlights
2015 GMC Sierra 2500 tire
With the hot sun beating down in Storm Lake, Iowa, Justin Ponsor fell in love with the “big power feeling” he got while riding tractors around his uncle’s farm in high school. His cousins then let him drive his uncle’s 6.0L Power Stroke and as the saying goes, that’s all she wrote.

“As soon as I turned the truck on and felt that diesel shake,” Justin said, “I was in love. I instantly knew I was going to own a diesel truck one day. My cousins and I took that truck mudding and it made me even more hooked. The sound of the engine at a high RPM, the sound of the turbo unspooling…everything was awesome about that truck and I became truly obsessed with wanting to own one.”

Justin’s dream came true with a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali HD. Justin’s a professional snowmobiler, and even if he didn’t need it to tow around his snowmobiles, he’d still own a diesel because of the power they put out. He liked gassers and even owned a Silverado with a 5.3L Vortec engine, but he says nothing beats the pure power and sound of a diesel.

The Transformers universe is rich with movies, television shows, books, comics, collectibles and more. It has captivated kids and adults alike with compelling storylines and movie director Michael Bay’s love for explosions on the big screen. Among those captivated is Alexandra Kelly, a 23-year-old from Iowa, who grew up absorbing the franchise any chance she got. Her dad first showed her the 1980s TV show and then she had the surreal moment of watching the original 2007 movie in a theater.

“As a kid,” Alexandra said, “I always remember thinking, ‘How cool would it be to have your own Transformer?’ The thought of giant alien robots was the coolest concept to me.”

Her dad regrets selling off his own collection of Transformers toys he had as a kid, so Alexandra took up the call and has built up a giant collection that is ongoing today. She can hold in-depth conversations on what a Transformer’s life force is, what makes them run, the color of their ‘energon’ or eyes—pretty much anything you can think of. When it comes to Transformers, Alexandra is the expert.

When Fuel
Isn’t Enough
The diesel aftermarket industry allows you to go above and beyond the basic capabilities and performance of your truck. This even includes your fuel. Diesel fuel additives allow you to go further and keep your pickup on the road longer. Check out the list we’ve put together of additives to help you do just that.
Archoil
Archoil
Archoil’s AR6500 Diesel Treatment is the complete diesel additive package, formulated to address issues associated with modern diesel fuels and boost performance at every fill-up for extended component life and reduced fuel costs.

AR6500’s detergents and lubricants have been engineered to clean, lubricate and protect your fuel system (including the latest high pressure common-rail injection systems). AR6500 cleans injector deposits to regain lost horsepower, removes carbon from the turbo for restored function and improves fuel lubricity above Engine Manufacturer’s Association recommendation to protect the fuel system from wear.

AR6500 also incorporates Archoil’s proven combustion modifier technology and a strong cetane boost to increase power and MPG and reduce carbon build-up in turbos, DPFs and EGR components. One 40-ounce bottle treats 400 gallons of diesel to keep you going further for longer. (www.archoil.com)

Hot Shot’s Secret
Hot Shot's Secret
Hot Shot’s Secret Everyday Diesel Treatment (EDT) fuel additive infused with LX4.

Lubricity Extreme is a concentrated 6-in-1 diesel treatment formulated to resolve issues associated with Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel. Engineered to improve power and performance while adding valuable fuel economy, EDT is recommended for use in all diesel engines. EDT cleans fuel injectors, prevents rust and corrosion, disperses moisture, stabilizes fuel, increases lubricity and boosts cetane up to seven points. The addition of LX4 Lubricity Extreme adds much needed lubricity to reduce the wear taking place inside the fuel system, extending the life of components. Recommended dosage is one ounce per 25 gallons of fuel. EDT 16-ounce squeeze bottle shown here treats 400 gallons of fuel and typically retails for less than $20. (www.hotshotsecret.com)
