Brycen Kellett was dead set on a 6.7L. He woke up with his eyes on a red F250, but a friend at a dealership messaged Brycen telling him to check out the F350 Super Duty Lariat they just got in. After seeing some pictures of it, he was sold.

Close up of tow hitch
My daughter frantically called me the other day after a vehicle had run into her while she was driving to school. She was understandably upset: as a teenage driver it was the first time she had ever been involved in an accident. She was stopped at a light and the guy behind her must have had his foot slip because without warning he smacked her truck really good. Luckily there was no damage, just some scratches on her tow hitch. His vehicle wasn’t nearly as lucky.

Her accident reminded me of an email I received that wasn’t intended as a joke–at least I don’t think it was–yet made me laugh hard. At the risk of sounding like an insensitive redneck, the email I received a few years back was from a guy in Texas who was pleading with me to help his cause against the use of trailer hitches. To say the least, his email had me laughing out loud.

His request was a simple one, to please consider including an article on the “virtues of removing the trailer hitch between uses.” That’s an actual quote from him and for the record, there is no way I would have chosen the word “virtue” here.

container of Hot Shot’s Secret Everyday Diesel Treatment (EDT)
Hot Shot’s Secret, the fastest-growing performance lubricant brand in the USA and one of the nation’s leading diesel additive brands, announces Everyday Diesel Treatment (EDT) is now being sold at select Travel Centers of America and Petro travel center stores. Travel Centers of America is the largest publicly traded full-service truck stop and travel center in the U.S. and includes both TA and Petro truck stop brands.

Everyday Diesel Treatment (EDT) fuel additive infused with LX4 Lubricity Extreme is a concentrated six-in-one diesel treatment with a powerful cetane improver that helps improve power and fuel economy. It also improves the lubricity of ULSD fuel to reduce wear, keeps the fuel system clean via special detergents, and is approved for all diesel vehicles and non-road engines. EDT cleans fuel injectors, prevents rust and corrosion, disperses moisture, stabilizes fuel, increases lubricity and boosts cetane up to seven points, adding much needed fuel mileage with every dose. Taking the Lariat Route: Brycen changes diesel paths after text message title

Side view of 2012 F350
Snow crests the window sill of a young boy’s upstairs bedroom as he lies in bed, eyes wide open in anxious anticipation. As the rising sun slowly lights up the room and his parents are still fast asleep, he decides it’s worth sneaking downstairs for a peek at what awaits him. While carefully avoiding the especially loud, creaking steps on the stairs, he makes his way down and lays his eyes on his dream under the Christmas tree: a 2012 F350.

Okay, that’s not exactly how Brycen Kellett got his diesel pickup, but he did say that he felt like a kid on Christmas morning while picking it up. He’d never owned anything newer than a 2003, so the newer truck definitely represented a learning opportunity and he couldn’t wait to get started.

A Potential Career
Brycen has worked a variety of jobs from construction to driving semis, but hopes for a career in the truck industry, a hobby he’s had since his dad owned mud trucks when he was a kid. As far as interest in the diesels?

Salute the Troops 2022 logo
Our annual Salute The Troops edition was created to honor the service and sacrifice of generations of our armed forces patriots, and more broadly all veterans — those who “supported and defended” with honor the American liberty enshrined in our Constitution. Let us continue to honor those brave men and women who have served or are currently serving our great country.
This Salute The Troops feature comes from Norfolk, Va., where Austin Eslinger is stationed with the Navy. The Gainesville, Mo., native left for bootcamp when he was 18, temporarily saying goodbye to his life of working on the family farm and riding bulls in the rodeo in the pursuit of serving his country.

If you look around at a rodeo, you’re sure to find plenty of diesel trucks. Hauling animals is a major part of the setup and takedown process at the event, and for that you need a large vehicle with a powerful engine. Power is something diesel engines know a little something about.

In the little pocket of Peru, Ill., not 2 hours outside the city of Chicago, Julian Pontoja has mastered the classic and adventurous backyard American lifestyle. He even has a personal slogan, “You just gotta keep livin.’” Whether he’s riding dirt bikes and quads on packed-dirt and muddied tracks, fishing on hot sunny days, or traveling across the states, you’ll never catch him far from his custom diesel truck.

Working in the collision industry as a body technician, Julian grew up around cars and trucks his whole life, and he was captivated by roaring engines and screaming torque. He always found a sense of comfort and fascination by the chugging 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 sound of an American V8, and now he comfortably sits confident in his custom-modded 2010 RAM 2500 Laramie. But his journey didn’t begin with trucks. Julian’s mechanical story of building cars actually started when he was 17 years old with a Subaru STI WRX, which he built into a 750hp all-wheel drive beast.

“I love the speed and power,” Julian said, when talking about his STI.

Sarina Kissell during her deployment
Sarina Kissell in her military gear
Sarina Kissell didn’t just follow her brothers into the military at age 19; she made history. It was 2016 and the Army had opened combat arms to females. She became one of the first 13Fs, or Forward Observers, which is an artillery position in which she’s attached to the infantry and calls for artillery fire as needed. She also communicates with the aircraft and can fire naval guns.

On top of all of that, Sarina was the first female 13F Paratrooper in Army history. She would jump out of perfectly good airplanes, and even earned her German Jump Wings when she jumped with the Germans. The impact Sarina made as a woman in the military was significant, and she’s aware of it.

“It meant that no single person is made for a job because of your sex,” Sarina said. “If you set your mind to it, anything is possible.”

Upgrade The “Cool” On Your Truck
The right grille allows air to cool your engine and improve the performance of the truck, but let’s be honest: upgrading your grille is often about making it look cool. It is front and center, sets the tone for the build and can be an attention grabber to those walking by at shows or on the street. Check out some of the grilles we’ve put together for you to choose from.
