OUR 2022 SHOW STOPPER AWARDS
Our annual Show Stopper Awards continue to grow in popularity as we seek products at the SEMA Show that best fit our targeted audience and stop us in our tracks. Over the years we’ve learned to appreciate the ingenuity and creativity that went into the development of some amazing aftermarket products, and to be honest, it’s getting harder to keep our award down to just five recipients. For our roundup this month we’re going to highlight the five products at SEMA that we felt were worthy of our Show Stopper award. In no particular order, here are the best of the best from SEMA this year.
Pacific Performance Engineering (PPE) intercooler kit (red color) for the GM 3.0L LM2 duramax engine
PPE
Debuting a product that has been in production for more than two years, Pacific Performance Engineering (PPE) came to SEMA with their brand-new intercooler kit for the GM 3.0L LM2 Duramax engine. The engineers also designed a whole new carrier bracket to hold it that was so well done you’d think it was stock just by looking at it.

The larger intercooler, 2.4 times larger than stock to be exact, helps create a cooler and denser air charge to your engine. The kit comes complete with the intercooler, carrier bracket, hardware, silicone hoses, couplers and clamps, as well as an aluminum turbo attachment, which is basically everything you’ll need to do the complete install yourself in your garage. SeaSucker Money Bars crossbar system
SeaSucker
For years we’ve been watching SeaSucker dominate the marine industry with its innovative vacuum mounts that are designed to attach to nearly any surface without drilling holes. When we came across their redesigned crossbar system they refer to as their Money Bars, it clearly caught our attention.

SeaSucker was approached by Quadratec in 2019 about how they’d like SeaSucker crossbars to work on a Jeep top, but the ridges on the roof were too tight for the normal 6-inch mounts. SeaSucker’s solution? They redesigned their vacuum mounts to an oval shape that will now also work well with a diesel pickup truck. And another great thing about these bars is that, being a suction mount, they aren’t permanent and can be removed and attached whenever necessary.

Permanent bars on top of your truck hurt your fuel economy when not in use so it’s nice to be able to remove the SeaSucker Money Bars when you’re not using them. (www.seasucker.com)

Air Lift WirelessOne Tank with EZ Mount
Air Lift
Air Lift has been around since 1949 and is currently one of the leading manufacturers in the air spring business. Their primary products are supplemental air springs that work with the factory steel springs to give your ride more lift when towing or hauling heavy loads. At SEMA, Air Lift introduced a brand-new extension of an existing product called WirelessOne, which is the most popular Bluetooth wireless control system on the market. Its customers have been asking for an auxiliary air tank and the manufacturer listened. The WirelessOne Tank with EZ Mount from Air Lift has a 100 percent duty cycle compressor capable of handling any job or task required of it. (www.airliftcompany.com)

GEARWRENCH modular ratchet sets of various wrenches
GEARWRENCH
GEARWRENCH has recently come out with some new modular sets of various wrenches that caught our eye at SEMA. One of the neat features about their new ratchet sets is that they come in 2-inch thick foam that can be dropped into your tool box drawer. One of the sets includes a ratchet, adapter, and all of the sizes perfectly seated inside the foam and labeled for maximum organization and efficiency.

They also have multiple sets for non-ratcheting wrenches as well. One particular feature we found interesting was a simple development that came from listening to the vast numbers of mechanics who say it’s not always easy to tell which way the socket was going until after a twist or two. GEARWRENCH had a simple solution of stamping “ON” and “OFF” right on the ratchet—a small detail that will help save a lot of sanity! (www.gearwrench.com)

Diesel Tech Magazine 2022 Show Stopper Award sits on top of a white Fusion Bumpers American made steel bumper
Fusion
Lastly, we here at Diesel Tech Magazine awarded our final Show Stopper award to Fusion Bumpers. The bumper manufacturer didn’t have one specific bumper or truck build that was more impressive than another when comparing all of its bumpers on display, but received this award based on the dominating presence at the show.

Simply put, what stuck out to us wasn’t necessarily any particular product that they brought to SEMA, but rather the flood they brought to the show! In total, Fusion Bumpers came to Vegas in full force with a whopping 54 trucks armored with their bumpers made from American made steel. This is something that was impossible for us to ignore—a true display of who they are and what they’re made of. (www.fusionbumpers.com)
