Turbos to give you the boost you need
Turbos are among the most prominent parts on diesel engines. With the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves, they deliver massive air flow into the combustion chamber in the form of boost pressure to help give diesels in various applications their unique high compression ratios. Turbos give significant increases in power and, even more so, torque. Fuel economy in proportion to engine output is also greatly improved.

Aftermarket turbos tend to give even greater benefits, especially considering the common problems that many OEM turbos can cause. For example, it’s important for turbos to have a great balance of spool-up time and air flow volume so the boost doesn’t compromise on low-end response. If you’re investing in a new turbo for your truck, choose a kit that doesn’t require major reconfiguration of everything under your hood. Here, we’ve rounded up some of the best companies in the industry to get you started on your search for a new turbo for your truck. Different turbos for specific model year trucks have been selected. Be sure to follow up with the manufacturer directly for your current make and year to find the right setup for you.

aFe Power
The BladeRunner GT Series Turbo for the 2003-2007 RAM 5.9L Cummins joins aFe Power’s growing list of products that maximize the performance of diesel applications from RAM, GMC/Chevy and Ford.

The BladeRunner GT Turbo is a perfect bolt-on replacement with added improvements including a 2-year warranty and no core charge. On aFe’s in-house dyno, the BladeRunner GT was able to bump up their 5.9L by 51 horsepower and 124 lbs.-ft. of torque with a performance tune and no other major modifications. By utilizing billet aluminum, aFe can produce turbos with lighter weight components that perform better and are more durable than stock.

If your tired, high-mileage turbo needs replacing – or you want an updated, better-than-stock turbo for your engine rebuild – the BladeRunner GT Series turbo will keep the 5.9L Cummins in your third-generation performing the way you need it to. (844-876-9929 // www.afepower.com)

BD Diesel
The BD Diesel Screamer HE300VG 6.7L Cummins Turbo for RAM 2013-2018 diesel pickups is the latest in a long list quality aftermarket turbos. It’s a drop-in stock installation that is a stock-looking replacement, yet is far from being stock. The larger Ballistic Billet compressor wheel and the new exclusive Low MOI QST turbine wheel result in reduced backpressure, quicker response, increased efficiency and increased turbine flow compared to the competition. This results in increased maximum potential power output, right up to 690 horsepower with performance modifications. No extra parts to install; just drop-in and enjoy the extra power potential. PPE
The factory turbocharger is pretty good for stock or lightly modified trucks, but it has limitations that may be restrictive to other modifications done to an engine. However, for those diesel customers who live and breathe power, or plan to upgrade their electronics, fuel delivery, and exhaust systems in a quest for stump-pulling muscle, the next logical step is to add more boost/efficiency. With a PPE turbo installation kit, adding a mid-size framed turbo with a T4 mount is simply a bolt-on installation job.

At the heart of this kit is a sturdy cast PPE T4 pedestal, which was specifically designed to support the weight of the turbocharger. The T4 pedestal is made from the same high-sil moly material as its Race High Flow Exhaust Manifolds. Also included is a 304 stainless steel, mandrel-bent, 3-inch diameter down-pipe that will connect the turbo to a stock exhaust system via supplied V-band clamps. The mounting hardware, gaskets and hoses are also supplied.

Thanks to its T4-ready pedestal, this kit will mount any T4-based turbocharger. (714-985-4825 // www.ppepower.com)

Spoologic Turbo Systems
Stage Two performance turbos for 1994-2007 5.9L Cummins trucks from Spoologic Turbo Systems are capable of supporting up to 650 RWHP and like Spoologic’s Powerstroke and Duramax turbos, these units feature exclusive Spoologic upgrades including custom designed and manufactured oversized compressor wheels; upgraded and oversized turbine shafts; exclusive anti-surge rings; upgraded wastegate actuators; and more.

Spoologic’s data-driven approach to design and manufacturing is based on testing in the lab, on the bench, on the street and on the strip. To ensure quality and longevity these are brand-new Spoologic turbos, not re-manufactured units. In addition, Spoologic balances components twice. First, the compressor wheel and turbine shaft are balanced, then the entire rotating assembly is high-speed VSR balanced.

These turbos are available in red, black or raw finish and feature the Spoologic name molded into the housing so they look great under the hood. Finally, these turbos are backed by a one-year warranty featuring Spoologic’s exclusive 48-Hour Warranty Repair Guarantee which means that within 48-hours of receiving a turbo in their warehouse, Spoologic will have it fixed and shipped out to the customer. Wehrli Custom Fabrication
Wehrli Custom Fabrication’s High Mount 2nd Gen Swap Kit allows for the installation of an S300 or S400 based turbo on your 2003-2007 5.9L Cummins with a second generation style exhaust manifold. The turbo is mounted in an upward position, which allows for better drivability, quicker turbo spool, easier install, and easier access to oil lines, the oil filter, intercooler pipe and downpipe. The shorty style downpipe connects directly to the exhaust v-band flange. For easier installation of the oil drain line, WCFab extended the oil drain line fitting by several inches from the bottom of the turbocharger.

The S400 kits utilize an o-ring style v-band connection at the turbocharger with a 3-inch silicone boot connection at the intercooler. On S300 applications, there is a v-band flange welded to the S300 outlet to accept a standard size v-band flange intercooler pipe and o-ring seal fitment with boot connection at the intercooler.
