Aftermarket turbos tend to give even greater benefits, especially considering the common problems that many OEM turbos can cause. For example, it’s important for turbos to have a great balance of spool-up time and air flow volume so the boost doesn’t compromise on low-end response. If you’re investing in a new turbo for your truck, choose a kit that doesn’t require major reconfiguration of everything under your hood. Here, we’ve rounded up some of the best companies in the industry to get you started on your search for a new turbo for your truck. Different turbos for specific model year trucks have been selected. Be sure to follow up with the manufacturer directly for your current make and year to find the right setup for you.
The BladeRunner GT Turbo is a perfect bolt-on replacement with added improvements including a 2-year warranty and no core charge. On aFe’s in-house dyno, the BladeRunner GT was able to bump up their 5.9L by 51 horsepower and 124 lbs.-ft. of torque with a performance tune and no other major modifications. By utilizing billet aluminum, aFe can produce turbos with lighter weight components that perform better and are more durable than stock.
If your tired, high-mileage turbo needs replacing – or you want an updated, better-than-stock turbo for your engine rebuild – the BladeRunner GT Series turbo will keep the 5.9L Cummins in your third-generation performing the way you need it to. (844-876-9929 // www.afepower.com)
